Welcome to my very first post

Yes! Finally! Welcome to my very first post. I’m not a great writer to start with as i am definitely more of a number person. This urge of writing came to me when i came across a Chinese article on managertoday.com.tw today. The article is about the best way to train up an individual independent thinking is not through reading but writing. It is only through writing that you are able to transform your knowledge into something concrete.

I have been in the education line for awhile now and i always tell my student to write their own notes. It’s not that i’m being lazy but i believe that it will make their learning more effective if they are able to digest what is being taught into something of their own. Most of the students think that by copying what is written on the board is equal to writing their own note. That is not quite right as a mere copying act would not require much brain cell or rather, it’s just a pure hand muscle movement. What they need to do is to think through what is written on the board and transform it into something uniquely theirs.

During the last two weeks of the term which is usually used for revision, i asked my class of 35 to show me their personal notes. You will be surprised on the variation of the notes on each chapters. Some used mind maps for the process flow while others used the traditional heading and sub-heading style. The students were thrilled to check out each other’s note and some of them even borrowed their friend’s note on some particular topics as reference.

I could not draw much correlation as to how effective writing or creating notes had improved my student’s results as my sample size is way too small. Nevertheless, personally, i believe that even by penning down my thoughts on blog would improve my writing skill tremendously.

There you are, my very humble first post on “writing”. Hope you all enjoy it 🙂
